Cybervillage falls victim to host's money troubles

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 09:55, 15/6/2001 | , ,

Stuart Halliday, who runs the the original RISC OS news site the Acorn Cybervillage, has announced that:
"...the Web company that hosts the Acorn Cybervillage is going in Voluntary Liquidation and so all web sites and email hosted by Oaktree and IS4B will no longer be available.

So as from today you may, or may not, find the Acorn Cybervillage Web site accessible as its due to close officially within a week."

Other sites such as the Archive magazine site will also be affected.

However, with luck the problem won't keep Stuart down for long.

"But never fear, plans are under way to transfer the Acorn Cybervillage and all its associated partners...to a new web host as soon as possible."

Unregistered user Paul Vigay points out that we've now had to announce temporary outages for both Drobe and the Acorn Cybervillage, and riscos.org was down for a couple of days during the ArgoNet attacks, so he's sure it's a TIB conspiracy to bump off the competition ;)

Unregistered user As we speak, Robin Watts is trying to have wss.co.uk transfered to Pepperfish, a small ISP myself and a couple of friends run. I'm not sure if we could beat the price that IS4B (which bought Doggysoft's ISP, Oaktree some years ago), but we could have a bloody good go at hosting other sites that have gone down the loo.

Unregistered user Rob, can you email me to let me know if you've had any success at offering new homes to some of the sites? It'd be good to report on any successes after such gloomy news.
