Firestarter preview

Posted by Alasdair Bailey on 00:00, 10/12/1998 | , ,

If FireStarter is ever released on the RiscPC, it will, most certainly be somewhat revolutionary compared to recent home-grown releases. FireStarter is being developed primarily with a NetStation/thin client release in mind but it is likely that should the game be released on any other platform, it will also be released for the RiscPC range.

Andrew Docking, author of Drifter on the Acorn platform is heading up the team working on FireStarter at Insomnia Studios, part of the Oregan Technology group. We recently interviewed Andrew with questions relating both to FireStarter and to his other recent projects, read it here.

FireStarter has been influenced by many other games including GoldenEye, Metal Gear Solid and also Mission Impossible. Although the game uses a third-person perspective, the gameplay is unlike that of the Tomb Raider trio but more along the lines of stealth tactics including carrying out missions whilst keeping right out of the way of the enemy.

The game's plot isn't all that original though; the play takes place on a barren planet, post nuclear apocalypse. Mission objectives will include sabotage, assassination and infiltration of enemy bases along with a fair bit of industrial espionage for added spice.

We don't yet know when/if FireStarter will see the light of day but Andrew is hopeful that he'll be able to say more after the Christmas period.
