Arculator updated to add A4 emulation and more podule support

Posted by Andrew Poole on 10:33, 10/9/2021 | , , , , , ,

Archimedes emulator Arculator has been updated to version 2.1 with some very nice new features. The emulator can now emulate an A4 laptop or the A500 prototype and can also emulate more podules, including the Aleph One 386 and 486 podule, meaning you can now run DOS and Windows in the emulator.

Other podules now supported include Acorn ROM podules, MIDI podules, Oak SCSI interfaces and Computer Concepts' ColourCard. Support for disc images in the .hfe format is also now included.

Act now! Grassroots action! Etc!

Posted by John Hoare on 13:59, 2/2/2007 | , , ,

Whatever Your Favourite Platform™ is, it might be an idea to listen to Boing Boing and take part in this questionnaire about the future of the BBC's on-demand services.

When one of the questions is "How important is it that the proposed seven-day catch-up service over the internet is available to consumers who are not using Microsoft software?", I think it's important to let them know "very". Even if you personally use Windows, the BBC shouldn't lock down its services to one vendor.

Windows/386 Promo

Hey, we're not one of those sites that just posts YouTube videos, honest. We also post Google Video too.

So, if you've not seen it before, you have to watch this Windows/386 promo video. It may be your usual nonsense at the start... but wait until it gets to seven minutes in. I CAN'T STAND THE CONFUSION IN MY MIND.

Why ex-RISC OS users should get a Mac

Posted by Alex Singleton on 20:43, 22/12/2006 | , , , ,

Like many readers of The Icon Bar, I started off computing with a BBC Micro. In 1991, I upgraded to an Acorn A3000, which was great because unlike Windows 3.0, you could print to a dot matrix printer and the printout would be just as it appeared on the screen. Then in 1994 I got a Risc PC, shortly after taking up the freelance role of Business Editor of Acorn User which I did for just over a year.

That's just sick and wrong

Posted by Phil Mellor on 17:00, 3/12/2006 | , ,

The latest beta of Parallels Desktop for Mac introduces a Coherence mode which allows Windows applications to run as part of the Mac desktop:

Sick and wrong perhaps, but very clever. If such a feature could be implemented for Virtual RiscPC, would you use it? Would you like to see RISC OS apps on the Windows desktop, or vice versa?
