Laputa is on Film4 at 16:05 this tuesday, if anyone is interested.
Is this another one where alcohol helps?
No, but feel free to try it and get back to us with your results wink
Well? Anything to report?

Also, it looks like Kiki's Delivery Service will be on Film4 at 13:05 on the Christmas Eve.

I intended to record it, to watch at a more suitable time for drinking - but forgot.

I certainly won't be drinking Christmas Eve; All things going to plan, I intend to set off early on the 25th in the direction of the Brecons for a nice, long hike. Drinking the day before would probably not be a good plan.

And I especially won't be drinking that early. (In fact, I'll probably still be working at that time). I'll try to remember to add it to my record list when I'm in front on the TV.

I fully endorse this product and/or service!

(P.S. - ignore the dub and use the subtitles, if not for your sanity then for mine tongue)

What, there are people who watch the dubbed versions?

To be fair, I did watch the dubbed Cowboy Bebop, but their voice actors were at least halfway competent. For movies and suchwot, it's almost always subs.

Well, I've now watchd Spirited Away (thanks, Google Video!) and Howl's Moving Castle (thanks, HMV Christmas gift card!)

Enjoyed both of them up until the last 10-15 minutes, where they turn all soppy and cheesy.

Can you recommend me a Ghibli film which doesn't do that at the end?

Pom Poko and/or Grave of the Fireflies. Just be warned that not only are the last 10-15 minutes different from the standard Ghibli fare, but so are all the rest of the minutes.

Who is this - Exposition Woman?

EDIT: Also, if she's flying around in the sky like that, she really ought to put some trousers on.

She is wearing trousers, they're just flesh toned.

By far my favourite Ghibli so far, although I've only seen three!

Got Ponyo here; it's next on the list.

I did. And almost one year on, it's still on the V+ box hard drive, waiting to be watched. Actually, I've been putting some effort into watching stuff and clearing it off the hard drive lately, and I'm now down to the last few films:

Species 3 and 4, The Art of War 2, and Kiki's Delivery Service.

I intend to find the DVDs of Species and Species 2, and The Art of War, and watch those before watching the respective sequels. I have them. Somewhere.

Oh unhappy But at least you haven't given up and deleted it smile

If memory serves, Species 4 is better than 3. Or at least I watched 4 all the way through but seem to remember giving up somewhere near the start of 3. This may or may not be related to the fact that 4 starts with an attractive woman but 3 does not.

And despite recently making some headway with my "ooh, that looks interesting!" film collection, a few weeks ago I seem to have stopped watching them and started recording large numbers again, so I've currently got about 40 films sat around waiting for me to decide their fate.

Yay for thread resurrection, etc.

Anyway... http://www.film4.com/whats-on/studio-ghibli-2013

Quite a lot of Ghibli films on TV over the coming weeks (although a lot of them are at silly times of day...)

In other related news, this is apparently happening in a couple of months grin
