Yay for thread resurrection, etc.

Anyway... http://www.film4.com/whats-on/studio-ghibli-2013

Quite a lot of Ghibli films on TV over the coming weeks (although a lot of them are at silly times of day...)
And I've seen them all anyway. Bah!

But:

Just watched Studio Ghibli's Arrietty. Excellent film grin
Yes, that was definitely one of the good ones.

Also:

However, I would like them to hurry up and release Porco Rosso on Blu-ray. Grr!
Still not out yet! Rage Rage Rage

And for anyone who hasn't tried them yet, the Blu-Rays do look fantastic. The DVDs are a blurry mess in comparison.

In other related news, this is apparently happening in a couple of months grin

I believe Grave of the Fireflies and either Kiki's Delivery Service are the next two going on blu-ray in June.

Since the thread has been resurrected...

I did.
(Recorded Kiki's Delivery Service (around the end of 2009)

Hurrah!

And almost one year on, it's still on the V+ box hard drive, waiting to be watched.
Oh unhappy But at least you haven't given up and deleted it smile
No. In the end I did get it watched - and quite enjoyed it.

Of course, as before, there was alcohol involved.

Need to sort the others out. I may have spent too much in the gift shop, too... shock

The short film that was playing was Mei and the Baby Cat Bus.

Hopefully the UK release won't be too far away now.

Also, while checking if "too far away" == "now", it looks like there's going to be a region-free Mad Max box set out soon. Although it looks like the Mad Max 2 disc has the same "problem" as the previous standalone release where the colour timing is different to the original versions and so there's tons of green plant life everywhere instead of everything being a dusty post-apocalyptic yellow. Bah!

I just introduced my little boy (at the age of 3.25) to Totoro. He loved it! Not sure why I haven't shown him these sooner. I think Kiki next, and then Ponyo...

Oh.

The Mad Max films exist in my DVD collection somewhere. I didn't know there was that problem, though, having never actually watched the DVDs.

And now I specifically want to watch #2 to see the problem. So I'd better watch #1 first, and follow #2 with #3. smile

I think the DVDs are fine, it's only the Blu-Rays which have the problem. (Although I guess any new DVD release would be based around the remastered footage that's used for the Blu-Ray?)

If you've ever watched it on ITV you'll have seen the problem - a few years ago they seem to have switched over from broadcasting the original dusty master to the newer HD master.

Ah, yes. I see there's a small clue in the address of the page you linked to that I didn't spot before.

I don't think I've watched any of them on TV since long before the DVDs existed. In fact, I'm not sure I've watched them on broadcast TV at all; I think I originally watched all three on video cassettes rented from the [then] local shop.

I'd still better watch them, though, just to make sure. wink
