Oooh... now you can watch TV on your TV tongue
How novel!
It's not that great - the video resolution is quite low (Paxman's nose uses about 2 pixels), there's no full screen mode, the interface uses the standard iPlayer web site which doesn't fit on the screen properly, and the grey on black text is hard to read.

The potential is definitely there, though - if they optimise the UI.
That was my thoughts when I fiddled with it the other day. It seriously needs fullscreen mode to be even vaguely useful.

So who's getting Mario Kart Wii this weekend, then?
Not me, I'm going on holiday to rainy Venice! (I have pre-ordered Wii Fit, though. shock)
Tsk.

I has Mario Kart Wii smile It's fun. Oddly, I quite like using the wheel.

I might get Wii Fit. I don't know yet.

The average Wii owner buys only 3.7 games a year, compared with 4.7 for Xbox 360 owners and 4.6 for PlayStation 3 owners, said a Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter.
So, on average that's one game less, but the console already comes with a game.

Take Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It was one the most hotly anticipated video games of the year; it sold more than 1.4 million copies during the first week of its release, in early March, and broke records for Nintendo of America. ... But sales dropped more than 90 percent over the first four weeks, according to estimates from VG Chartz, a team of analysts who study video-game sales.
10% of 1.4 million is about 140,000 a week, which seems fine to me. Most games sales drop off after a short time. (Although many Nintendo games are slow burners - New Super Mario Bros DS and Animal Crossing still make the top 10 in the Japanese charts).

PS3 owners buy 4.6 games per year on average?

Good grief. My brother bought somewhere between 20 and 30 in the 6 months or so he had a PS3.

He no longer has a PS3 (it's mine now, MINE!1) so that average will probably drop! wink

1. See. I said I'd wait until I could get one second hand. Unfortunately, I've no games for it - he sold most of them (the ones I'd want) first, so I told him to sell what was left and try to recoup a little more of the money he'd shelled out. I have plenty of PS2 (and 1!) games. I'll buy the PS3 games I want when I see them at a price I'm willing to pay.

That'll only cover you for one year, though. What about the other years that you'll be owning the console for? And this is assuming that the study doesn't take into account the games that come bundled with consoles.

Hang on - wasn't the WII released in the latter half of 2006?

If so, the average annual figure for games bought can only be based on first year game purchases, with average second year purchases being a complete unknown until the actual second year of its availability has passed and its users have bought their average number of games in that second year.

Yes.

Like a fool I finally got around to spending my spare Wii points (and some from the Wii points shop) on Super Metroid. It's very good, but it means I'm 300 points off the price of Lostwinds, and I'm not going to buy another 1000 when I've got enough stars to get there for free.

It doesn't have the IGN logo, but it does say "IGN.com 9/10 - You need to buy Okami for Nintendo's system", which I suspect was to make up for it.

Okami is excellent, by the way. It feels very Zelda-ish (in a good way), yet seems more original and atmospheric than Twilight Princess.
