I have been told that I can upgrade my 233T RiscPC by 8MB from 18Mb if I haven't used both SIMM slots. Will I have to open the case to find out or does anybody know how many slots are used by default in these machines?Andrew |

RAM is so cheap that, if it were 2x 8M then just replace one. (I just recently replaced both my (not original) SIMMs with a single 128, because they were loading the bus too much - 36bit not 32bit as required.) SIMMs are easy to get at if you have no podules, awkward (not compared to a typical PC though)if you have. |

hmmm dunno about "easier than a typical PC". with a PC u just take the case off, and the RAM slots are right in front of you.
That very much depends on your PC and it's case. I've seen some good ones, and also some absolute nightmares. |

Hmm, I actually prefer those to the ones you have to remove the entire casing just to get the PCI slots. Most of the time I've absolutely no need to access the metal plate that holds the motherboard. Just wish more computer manufacturers could make casing like the Apple G4 towers! |

By default usually only one slot is used. You're probably using one slot with a 16MB SIMM. The 2Mb extra are probably VRAM that has a special slot, not taking up a SIMM slot. The only way to be really sure though is to open the case and look inside. I'm not at my RiscPC right now and I haven't opened it in years but I think the SIMM slots are marked as SIMM 1 and SIMM 2 and are located in some horrible spot where it's awful to get to. If you only have one SIMM installed you can add more than 8MB, I have one 32MB and one 4MB SIMM in mine and I know some have at least 64MB in theirs |

hehe, those tower cases where you have to take each side off separately are horrible |
