Don't you love how the entire media seemingly focusses on the negative news to the exclusion of any signs of genuine growth?

Just a couple of examples, building continues at Canary Wharf (http://www.skyscrapernews.com/imagesall.php?idi=The%2BLandmark%2BAt%2BE14%2BGets%2BBrowned&ref=1881&selfidi=1881TheLandmarkAtE14GetsBrowned_pic1.jpg&self=nse&no=1);
the Shard is still underway (see Wikipedia); HSBC has reportedly increased profits this year (http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/news/hsbc-profit-up-ten-per-cent-despite-17-billion-wr-18491376.html?utm_source=FeatureVenueSiteStats&utm_medium=internal&utm_campaign=FeatureVenueSiteStats).

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/news.php?ref=1082

Dated 31-08-2007:
"Construction of the two towers is already well underway with completion in 2010"

Stopping now would probably cost more than finishing it.

the Shard is still underway (see Wikipedia);

http://www.skyscrapernews.com/news.php?ref=1789

"There are only going to be a dozen or so apartments on offer and with such a limited amount there's no list price - you'd be better off guessing a telephone number. Billionaires will no doubt discretely bid against each other making the sky the limit for the price."

Yep, billionaires still have plenty of money.

HSBC has reportedly increased profits this year (http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/news/hsbc-profit-up-ten-per-cent-despite-17-billion-wr-18491376.html?utm_source=FeatureVenueSiteStats&utm_medium=internal&utm_campaign=FeatureVenueSiteStats).
"Strong results in emerging markets in Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East helped offset the losses made in the US market."

And at least someone's markets are growing (at least until they run out of customers).

Other signs of continuing growth: Halliburton shares have nearly quadrupled in value since the start of the Gulf War. Yay!

Canary Wharf is providing more living space and continuing to revitalise the docklands. That's good news.

The Shard is, of course, mixed use (shops, offices, restaurants, hotels etc) making it a reward multiplier.

And amidst the "downturn" the Wesfield shopping centre (biggest city shopping centre in Europe
) is performing well and better than some would have had us believe.

To be fair, and putting aside the usual 'bad news v good news' argument for a second, I wouldn't say the entire media is guilty of the above.

Unfortunately, that article is slightly out of date, given that it was published in March 2008, and refers to their 2007 figures (with comparisons to 2006).

I think the financial crisis has become a touch worse since then.

So which newspapers or news outlets are being positive then? ITN have been ramping up the doom for months.
Today we learn that retail sales have risen:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7789311.stm

But it's not exactly easy to find talk of a fightback. Whereas if they had fallen it'd probably be "crisis deepens".

And here today is how the Shard will supposedly pay for itself:
