Could be a Millipede special. Millipede's video magic cards where very very wide podules; the CPU cards may have interfered with them in their normal upright orientation. |

I've got these Millipede's cards (Alphalock if I remember correctly, bought from the person using them for a quizz game on the BBC, with realtime graphical effects) and Rob your explanation makes sense.
I think one of these cards has an ARM3 daughter board, as an upgrade from the original ARM2. (Or is that an ARM6 ?)
Millipede was clever to use a daughter board system for the CPU.
I doubt my boards had this kind of connector for the CPU daughterboard, but who knows there might have been evolutions designed to work with ARM6/7 and StrongArm CPUs as designed by Acorn.
I remember spotting such a StrongArm card about a month ago on Ebay, and I was curious too : at 1st I thought it could have been for a RISC PC laptop Acorn had plans to release and dropped it.
I know someone built an A7000 (cut down RISC PC) in a case

Are you thinking of the Millipede Apex Imager podule? I've got one and it takes up the full width of a slice. However, it lives happily with a normal StrongArm card.
Doesn't mean that it couldn't have been for use with another one of their products of course.
Also, didn't AVS make some RiscPC based graphics kit? Maybe they created it.

I think Castle offered an angled plug/socket to allow this lay-flat arrangement with a standard processor card. Never seen one, though. Fitting a RPC into an A7000 case does require some metalwork so might be worth sourcing some parts to make one - can anyone oblige or tell me what to look for? |
