Unregistered user I am currently using my RISC PC on a "proper" corporate network.

I want to print to a networked printer which is shared on an NT4 machine which is naturally username and password protected, how do I print through the NT4 server, it wont let me because it doesn't know who I am!

Do I need to register with the NT4 server somehow?

Unregistered user I use the freeware JetDirect module to print directly to the HP laser printer downstairs via the network - bypassing the NT stuff entirely. Of course this requires you to have the correct type of printer, and have it networked rather than (or as well as) connected directly to the NT box with a printer cable.

Unregistered user The printer has an IP address and everything, proper networked printer!

JetDirect module?

The printer is a HP4m laser

Unregistered user I have done some serious searching and I have not been able to find the freeware version of JetDirectFS, only the RComp £40 version.

Unregistered user Hmm... looks like the page that housed it has been removed; maybe due to it being sold to R-Comp? Anyone know where to find it?

Unregistered user A command problem when connecting Win95/98 machines to an NT Server is that they dont support passing a domain name. Some Windows software supports a user name in the format "domain/userid" instead of just "userid". I dont have a NT server at home to test this but I do regularly connect to a Win95 print server.
It must be worth a try.

To print thro' the NT4 print queue, your best bet is LanMan98
from Warm Silence Software. This allows you to specify the
username and password as part of a string in the !Printers
connection dialogue.
