Unregistered user http://www.microdigital.co.uk/ coming up fine on my IE box at work.

The code looks pretty harmless - HTML3.2 with a cgi hit counter. Not that I approve of fixed-width tables, especially when they mess up the nav bar.

Maybe somebody's router got Code Red again ;/

Unregistered user Looks like there's a table error - NS really doesn't like those.
Run it through http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.microdigital.co.uk to see.

True. Lots of </TR> and other closing tags missing, like </TABLE> and </CENTER> for example.
Horrible really.

Unregistered user I've just tried it with MS Explorer (Yuk!!), and it seems to work OK. There's nothing new there though!

Lee I have to agree. I think that MD have had far more than their fair share of flak.

As far as I'm aware the Omega was developed from scratch, which is always a painful process. When the Omega arrives it will be an excellent machine. Next year when I can afford it I hope to replace my SA RPC with one.

My comment ... was referring to the lack of care taken in respect to the company's image.

So true of so many RISC OS companies.
*sigh*

I've just emailed MD about the code problem, so we'll see if they're any better at listening than the rest.

The other 'issues' with MD tend to fall under bad PR, too.

I've found their PR at shows and on the telephone to be fine.

The trouble is, MD are not the only ones who don't like comments or advice on such matters. Most don't listen. It's a great pity as developers tend to have fantastic products and poor Web sites (and general PR). It would directly benefit them to pull themselves together and do a swish job at PR!

If I have an opinion, I thought this was where it could be aired. Is it too hard to ignore it if you disagree or something? No.

My comment was not referring to the Omega, OK? It was referring to the lack of care taken in respect to the company's image. A company that wants to grow and have a professional image also needs to have a professional Web site. That's just how it is these days. The other 'issues' with MD tend to fall under bad PR, too.

As for their fair share of flak, they've made their fair share of goofs and unadvisable decisions to go with it.

If they pull their socks up and the Omega works, I certainly shan't continue to make smart comments about them. Until then I reserve the right to be a right Smart Alek monkey

Believe it or not I do respect your opinion, it's just that it doesn't have to be continually repeated. I'd be surprised if there was anyone reading these forums that didn't know how you felt.

Yes they have, and they have been pointed out on many, many occasions but has anyone actually pointed them out to MD? The impression I get is that very few people have actually opened a worthwhile dialogue with them.

Yes the Omega has been something of a PR disaster but now the website too? It's not the worst website I've seen by a long way.

I don't continually berate Castle for their seeming inability to deliver Oregano 2. Before anyone jumps in I know they don't control development but they've been promising it "real soon now" for sometime. Ok they haven't taken money for it (still it's up to the individual to decide whether to put money down on something that doesn't exist) but, IMHO, it currently falls into the same category as Omega. Despite this Castle are often promoted as being the "good guys of the scene".

How about we leave the comments until MD either deliver or they cancel. If they cancel or the Omega is poor then, by all means, rip them to shreds if you must, but let's just wait and see eh?

I was simply replying to a comment made by someone else. I didn't particularly want it to turn into a large discussion. I sometimes forget the nature of Internet discussions wink

Yes I have. They tend not to respond.

True, but it's not that striking either. It's not up to scratch for a commercial Web site. I'm sure they've had lots of offers. I offered to do it before I grew to dislike them, but they decined.

They are the good guys. They've done nothing but good.

Oregano 2 is simply being bug-ironed at the moment. They haven't set dates have they, although I admit the perceived delays are not good. Very frustrating, actually.

Maybe we'll see a plethora of working goodies from all companies at RISC OS 2001 smile
