Many I time I have had want to search TIB forums, but it's tricky.

Sometimes one wishes to post about something that's been posted about before, for example.

So how about an option to list an entire forum on one page so that the browser's search function can be used to trawl through all the thread headings of that forum?

Or even (going really mad :E) an option to list every thread from every forum on one page!

Whaddayathink, hmm?

Well, if only the normal search engines would be allowed to look into the forums I'd be happy. But I think there is a 'robots=no' somewhere.

usually I'd use google:
search <item> in domain iconbar.com

and putting the whole forum contents in 1 page would be.. uhm.. bandwith waste at least.

Yes quite, but you CAN'T do that, hence this thread! :frown:

Only on REQUEST! E.g. have an extra link to do that. I'm not suggesting it be as standard!! Grr, stop being akward marcof! :P

It'd gobble up Rich's server's bandwidth as well, what with the likes of you and :moss: downloading the whole forum at once, every five minutes! :E

Not so. It's just that no search engine will harvest from obviously dynamicly generated pages in case the data changes (duh!) or the harvester gets into an infinite loop. Anything with /cgi-bin, .php etc. in the URL will be passed over - and so the forum is ignored.

Anything with php in? isn't that loads of websites now?

Google has got <a target=_top href="www.iconbar.com/suggest.php3?suggest=pearl</a>">http://www.iconbar.com/suggest.php3?suggest=pearl">www.iconbar.com/suggest.php3?suggest=pearl</a> but doesn't search/cache and aicn stories.

Anyway, using .exts in urls is bad, see <a target=_top href="http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI.html">http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI.html</a>

If you're using a new fangled database thingy then surely a search feature shouldn't be too hard to fit in?

If it's a straight search for one word then it's pretty simple. It's getting the rules for things like multiple words (search for all words, or just some of the words?), sounds-like for misspelt words, sorting by date or weight, and so on that gets complicated. It's a big job (oo-er).

OK, I oversimplified. Things with attributes tend to get ignored.
