There has been quite a lot of discussion about attracting new users to RISC OS (quite rightly so!) and also, more lightheartedly, about enthusiasts’ promoting / showing support for our platform in other ways (such as getting some really cool
:-? T-shirts done).

It occurs to me that the two threads are not mutually exclusive, and could be combined to further the advance of RISC OS (which is what we all want).

A Brief summary of the state so far:

-Epsom is a nice venue, but too out-of-the-way to attract new users.
-Should RISC OS Ltd give up and allow someone else (castle?) to develop the OS?
-Would it be beneficial for there to be a way to make RISC OS companies (specifically ROL, Castle, RiscStation and Microdigital) more aware of customer / market needs than they currently “appear” to be.
-How else can new users be attracted to RISC OS?
-Would TV advertising (or other high profile publicity) be any good at this stage of market development?
-Should we all wear RISC OS T-shrits, maybe with a URL on the back that would be a web page promoting RISC OS in a professional way to new users?

So, what can we, as users, enthusiasts, (geeks – some of you! :) and generally the most enlightened people on the planet, do?
Let’s not forget that we already have a great acronym in "RISC" that could surely be put to better/more eyecatching/ more witty use!

Unregistered user Something definately needs to be done to reverse the meagre profile of RISC OS based computing at the moment.

Maybe something simple just to get RISC OS heard of would be enough of a start. And there definately (as Annraoi said in another post) needs to be a show in London somewhere. Not to knock Epsom or Wakefield (they're both lovely places) but having the 2 largest RISC OS shows almost hidden away seems a little counter productive.

Maybe the "clothing URL" should be to a simple, single page about RISC OS so as to gently inform the millions of random members of the public that would look at it… (it could obviously have links to riscos.org, as well as many others!).

Hmm, could have a "what URL should we have on our RISC OS clothes" Poll ? !!!

Come to that, maybe there should also be a "what sort of RISC OS clothing/gifts should we have?" Poll …

I know that's what this very page is for, but there's also a lot of chatter here :) (not that I'm innocent of that!).
Could the TIB "home" page main vote/poll thingy be put to use on that?

Unregistered user I read an interesting article about a company in New Zealand called Mainfreight. To cut a long story short, the hits on their website went from 500 per month to over 68000 per month in a very short space of time. How did they do it? They put a URL on the back of their trucks!

How about a nice bumper sticker for my car?

Bumper sticker's a great idea... smile

Probably be semi-expensive tho.

Maybe we should resort to writing the (Magical non-existant RISC OS promoting/introducing) URL everywhere - like in the dirt on vans etc smile
