Unregistered user I noticed a RiscPC on the ROL stand at the RISC OS Expo 2001 that was running "RO4.18". I looked around in the !Systems folder and found a 410 modules folder. Suggests some progress (beyond displaying an Ally McBeal switcher Icon :)

Alas I didn't have the chance to ask Paul M about it. Anyone know anything more ?

You'll probably find that the stuff proporting to be an OS upgrade are mainly bug fixes and incorporation into the OS of stuff available freeware already.

What _are_ you talking about? Have you read the feature list for the first Select release? There's no 'probably find' about it. You definitely won't.

It comes down to this: Will the Select release let you do things in RISC OS that you can't do now (no matter what 3rd party software you install)? The answer is yes. If you have a need or desire for those things, Select will be very useful and good value for money. If you don't, there's always the subsequent Select release to look forward too.

Yes, I've read it extensively. Bug fixes, a few improvements and a couple of new bits. It is not so much a features list, more a "oh look, this is what is bust, let's charge for the fixes and while we're at it, bung in some other bits to keep people happy"

Other than dhcp and printers upgrades - it won't.

That said, there is no g/tee these will be on the CDs. That said, there is no g/tee of CDs (up to 3 means any number from 0 to 3).

It boils down to

1. Keep a company afloat which has done blow all for us since the release of OS 4 and now they're in money problems ask for 105 quid from poor ol' users for not really very much

2. Let them face the harsh world of economics - if you've nothing to offer, you go under.

I won't be getting the Select CDs - they're not worth the money, agro and besides, most of the stuff (other than bug fixes) I already have from the companies ROS Ltd are now trading against.

Unregistered user And it all comes back to (if PM made those comments) why bicker about this if our platform is currently doomed. Do shareholders realise that they voted for a person who has no thought for the market.

IMHO etc.

I doubt it. Face it, some shareholders think the sun emits from his backpassage others don't want change.

Yes. It was running the beta software ROS Ltd are trying to peddle in order to stay afloat under the guise of "keeping the platform alive" (read keeping the company alive). Software which may or not be on the CDs which you pay for.

Is our platform doomed? ROL probably are, but that shouldn't stop the rest of the community. May even help. smile

Unfortunately I do hope that ROL as in the current management are doomed to history and someone new takes over fast as I have 0% confidence left as do a lot of my colleagues.

If it doesn't happen? Well I won't be on this platform for long and neither will some well known colleagues.
