If the memory on a A3010 went from 1Mb to 2Mb with two small chips. Then went from 2Mb to 4Mb with a circet board and two chips on top of that, modified later back to just using two chips. Why can not someone invent another circet board to increas it to 8MbRam. |

Because the MEMC memory controller in the ARM250 can only cope with 4 megabytes of physical memory. To add more you'd need to add a second MEMC chip and slave it to the first. While this was possible with the A5000, I'm under the impression that the integrated nature of the ARM250 means that the necessary signals for doing this are not present.

Thank you for ansering my question Since I got the PC for my lad, I have found lots of little thing from the web to use. This has eaten nearly half of my 4MbRam and is takeing me back to before upgraded It. If I naw wont to run 1 or 2 large apps, some other thing have to be knocked off. I know i can not keep going on adding thing on to the ram for ever without changing the machien. Is there anyway around this or is there something I don't know that would help. |

I'm afraid not, the only option is to change machines. I'm in the same situation myself with a 4MB A4000, although I don't have quite the same problems as I'd never consider using it for Internet access. I guess the main difference here is that I've no qualms about spending the money on a new machine, if a suitable machine comes along.

Never, quite right I’ll never give up my machine. I would by a new RiscPC if I could afford one, then plan on linking then if I could. I love it for what it can do; I would still use it for its graphics, games, backing up thing etc. I just wish there would be more support for us lower end. When down loading of the PC then loading back up on to the Acorn. Finding it dose not work because it needs 3.x or higher / BasicLb.x, It’s a bit annoying and time wasting. |

While I can understand your frustration it's also worth being a little realistic. The A3xxx and A4000 series are around 7-8 years old now. When I got my A4000 the equivalent PC was a 286. It's probably fair to say that our machines shouldn't even be in use anymore (admittedly this is a wasteful idea). The fact that you have to download on a PC and then transfer to your RISC OS machine really says it all - I have to do the same mind you. Unfortunately the IT industry is mostly driven by forcing people to upgrade. If you can't afford it you get left behind. Harsh but true.

Acorn should really have redesigned the memc to take at least 16meg when they bought out the Arm250 models. Your best bet is a cheap Risc PC. They are great and easy to expand. You won't regret it. I have both a A3010 (upgraded with arm3 and 2gig hard drive) and a SA Risc PC and love them both. |

I have a 3020 4M / 150M HD / net Card, that I have taken to work. (SA RPC at home). It's got the RO 3.7 boot and the themes program. To avoid too many reboots I have editted some of the boot files, (eg stronged). so that filetypes are not associated automatically to the larger programs. The machine is used on the internet for ftp and icq. |

Although I have an 810mbHD (I don't think i'll be able to fill it). It is very useful for backing up and tranfering larger files (jpeg, wavs, ect) too and from the PC. Thus not having to insert and remove floppys all the time. The Zipdrive disc is hardly removed. :-)) |
