Hi,

I'm new to the Acorn Archie myself, but seem to be the recognised computer geek of the family. One of my relatives has an old A4000. Her young son has just been mucking around with the screen modes, and now half the screen image is not visable, and it won't go into the desktop. As you can tell, I am new to the Archie.

This will probably turn out to be a very simple thing to fix. You see, I can use the ARM command line thingie, so I suppose I need to know how to change the screen mode from there. Both user's manuals have been lost.

Sorry to ramble.

Thanks, Quentin.

Sounds like a Wimpmode that is incompatible with your monitor has been configured. Try *wimpmode 15 at the command line interface.

Well, that didn't seem to work, but then, remembering what you had said about the wimpmode being incompatible with the monitor, I tried a few other monitors, and one worked. The text in the command line interface is now crystal clear. But I still can't get onto the desktop, and Wimpmode 15 doesn't seem to help.

I get an error message "Internal Error : Abort on data transfer at &03816A60"
When I hit return to "cancel", I am back in the command line interface. I can try to get into the desktop again, but when I do, I get the error message "Not enough memory in module area". I then am in the desktop, but cannot do anything, as there isn't enough memory in the module area.

Have you tried doing a <delete>/<R>-power on?

That seemed to work. Thanks heaps. :-)

Now, I guess that the <delete>/<R>-power on loaded it with default settings. That's useful to know.
