Do you honestly expect a non-idiotic answer to this question? grin

First of all you decide what kind of game you are going to make, then you design it, then program it, make the graphics and sound (if necessary) and finally you tell the world about it. Last bit being optional in RISC OS world.

P.S. I assume you were looking for a sarcastic answer!

Unless you're thinking of text-based games, then I suggest you start off by looking at how sprites are plotted and think how you would get them to movie about the screen.
You'll need to know BASIC first however and then you'll need to know about SYS calls. You can get the manuals from RISC OS Ltd or more limited information from the StrongHelp manuals.

Do a search on Acornsearch.com for game making tutorials, or look through some old issues of Acorn User.

Find some other people to help get you started too. Does anyone remember the Amnesia suite of programs? Did people think they were any good? Do they still work on the latest machines?

Cos you could give those a try.

This time I actually have a great place to look at: Gamasutra.com has some excellent articles about game making, from games design to creating 3D engines, creating tech trees for God games like Civilization (Chopping down the Tech Tree by Ethan Wathrall), creating AI engines for games (More AI in Less Processor Time: 'Egocentric' AI by Ian Wright and James Marshall), Path finding (Pawn Captures Wyvern: How Computer Chess Can Improve Your Pathfinding by Mark Brockington) and numerous other excellent articles on game making and a bulletin board for discussion of ideas. Check out Features for the articles.

Hmm some useful, and not so useful, replies here.

I'm always up for discussion on this kind of thing. Feel free to mail me and I'll try and answer what I can although I will make the assumption that you can write a bit of code. I'm also in a position to supply C and ARM source code for sprite plotting, polygon drawing and general screen handling.

Check out

http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computing/users/johnstlr/warp/warp.html

for my discontinued Warp code.

The gamesuite modules are pretty good and should work on the latest machines. Matthew Bloch wrote a small series of articles for Acorn User a few years back and you can probably still get his C Popcorn library that went with it. I may be able to dig up a copy of either of these if you get stuck.
