Unregistered user Does anyone know the diiference between SCSI 1 and SCSI 2 ?
I'm planning to buy a UMAX Astra 2200SU scanner. Apparently it contains both
SCSI 2 and USB
interfaces.
Which SCSI interface will I need for my RPC? (and does anyone have any going
cheap?)
Cheers!

Unregistered user Mainly different plug and different top speed. SCSI 1 with right cable SHOULD work. I got one from AJS for £20, they probably will have more eventually. It wouldn't be as fast of course.

Unregistered user Hi
I use a SCSI II interface I got from APDL. They still a few which they are selling cheap becausse the builder seems to have left the acorn field. They were produced in Germany by ACE in Stuugart and work really well. I use it for a drive as well.

Unregistered user Oops!
Should've posted a follow-up to this thread shouldn't I?

I have since purchased an SCSI card from Liquid Silicon.
After a couple of initial problems, the scanner now works fairly well.
Cheers!

The interface you're talking about is the "Connect 32", later called "SCSI Connect", because ACE produced some interfaces for Mouse, Midi a.s.o., all named "xxx Connect".

A general problem of hardware by ACE is the bad driver situation - my RiscBlaster has drivers in beta state only.

The drivers for the SCSI Connect are basically okay, but since ROS4 there are problems because the driver writes to the zero page... That way, it is not reliable enough for me.
