What is the best way to directly transfer data from a BBC to a PC? Is there some kind of cable available? |

I can't remember the name, but there was some software to transfer from BBC to Acorn. You could use that, then transfer it from Acorn to PC via floppy. Might include spending some ££ though  |

Oh yes, I think RGSC did this as well as BBC to Acorn serial link didn't they?

Watford did BBC->Arc transfer stuff, but they've got rid of all of thier old Acorn stuff (as I found out when I wanted to get the docs or demo disc for their digitser recently). Replacing (temporarily!) the 3.5" floppy on your RISC OS machine with a 5.25" one and using the BBC floppy reader (can't remember exactly what it's called, try AcornSearch.com) should do the trick. There's a number of RISC OS->PC solutions, including replacing the 3.5" floppy and using discs. |

Where can I get a 5.25 drive Rich? Presumably from your BBC that you're transfering the original files from - or are you saying that you're just stealing someone else's BBC files?  Failing that, some bargains are to be had on Ebay. I bough an old 486 and took the 5.25" drive from that, although I still haven't finished building my Phoebe fileserver with the extra drives in - the MoBo I was using seems to hang after about half an hour, so there's not much point You might need an old-style floppy cable to connect a 5.25" to your Archie, but that's where getting a whole 486 came in handy...  |
