After confirmation from the ARM club that the Midlands show will not take place this year due to "the demise of the majority of exhibitors", RISCOS Ltd have got in touch with news of what they are dubbing The "RISC OS Christmas Roadshow 2005".
Paul Middleton, MD of RISCOS Ltd told us "The current aim is to have late afternoon / evening events at three venues around the UK on Thursday 15th, Friday 16th and Saturday 17th December. This would typically be from 4.00 p.m - 8.00 p.m"
The tentative agenda is:
Thursday: | Birmingham |
Friday: | Manchester |
Saturday: | North London / Luton area |
Venues further north such as Newcastle are also under consideration.
Any companies interested in joining the Roadshow for some or all of the dates should contact Paul Middleton +44 (0)29 2046 4020 at RISCOS Ltd.
The Icon Bar will have coverage of these events.

I don't know where Andrew got his quote from about the reason for cancelling the Birmingham show but it is somewhat off the mark. The SW, Wakefield and SE Show have happened since the poor attendance at last year's Birmingham show which could better be explained by the (unavoidable) cancellation of the previous year's show, it being the second show in a month, confusion with the PC Show next door, heavy traffic, &c. Well done ROL for stepping in to ensure that RISC OS is brought close to customers around the country! |

I'm assuming that's Newcastle Upon Tyne, rather than Newcastle Under Lyme... |

I assume that too. Paul didn't state which, but by further north he implies that. Q: The quote was from some personal correspondance with Midlands Show organisers, so I fail to see how it can be off the mark. |

the demise of the majority of exhibitors sounds like an excuse given the turnout at recent shows. The real problem isn't getting exhibitors to come, its that some don't pay. As a voluteer how much time do you spend chasing Castle to pay the bill for there stand before paying out of you're own pocket? |

mspggy: make the exhibitors pay on the door like the visitors "you're not setting up until you pay", but I suppose everyone is too polite for that ;) |

Andrew: I don't doubt you have the quote correct - but there have been lots of problems that are specific to the Birmingham Show without blaming exhibitors or organisers. The last two shows were badly sited with interference from the downmarket PC market, two years ago was burned out with little notice, three years ago it was badly attended ...... and it's recently been too close to the SE Show. I don't think the single reason given helps - and it's certainly not the only reason. It will be interesting to see what ROL and the rest of us can now sort out for December. |

Friday evening for Manchester is dissapointing. That's when I'm escaping Manchester for the weekend. Staying there is beyond thinking, even for a ROL presentation (unless someone can think of a good side to getting depressed). |
