So no new Select for subscribers, no issue of Qercus for subscribers. But I'm sure it was a "very upbeat show", it always is. |

I think it seems pretty positive indeed considering. Oregano 3 especially. Also I read that Castle are evaluating new ARM chips - that is cause for some considerable hope. |

Not too much about "This is how we're going to get more users using RISC OS", which is what's really needed. Signs of the tide being stemmed would be upbeat, and unfortunately I didn't see too much of that, despite a few encouraging bits and pieces. |

I didn't go to the show, unfortunately, but thanks for the informative report. Paul Middleton's estimate of RISC OS users seems unduly pessimistic - or does he mean Select/Adjust users? After all, VRPC claim to have sold 3000 copies; I'd imagine total Iyonix sales would be of the same order, and judging by recent surveys RiscPC users are still in the majority. Whatever, new hardware that you can actually buy is most encouraging. Moving on, I absolutely disagree with the view (implied in your report of PM's remark re second hand PCs) that RISC OS can afford not to have as capable a browser as possible: nothing will cause the market to leak users faster than lack of a decent browser. Lets either develop Netsurf, finish off Firefox or release Oregano3, but for Gawd's sake lets have /something/ that works! |

No idea why Firefox wasn't picked up on after all the effort that went into it. Still O3 look v.promising. What put me off O2 was the interface and the reported speed and incompatibilies. Netsurf is truly a great project but I get the impression JS is a step too far for the developers. |

Bucksboy> Gauging how many RISC OS copies are out there and in use would be difficult. Ok ROL would know how many copies of RO4.XX were sold to VA for use in VRPC but what of the RO3.1 used in VA5000? VA could well be counting 3,000 as being for *both* variants. And some people may have upgraded from VA5000 to VRPC so 3,000 licenses *may not* represent 3,000 users. Additionally in the drobe poll it does appear that a relatively small number of VA users responded (significantly less than 3000). So some VA/VRPC users may have left the scene or at least are not active and unlikely to purchase RO products. As to Iyonix sales I don't believe PM would necessarily count them in (even if he knew what the number was) - as ROL are not in a position to provide an OS or software for Iyonix. |

To confirm, last night as ROUGOL Paul M mentioned 3000 copies of RISC OS 4 for Virtual Risc PC, completely unrelated to va5000 sales. |
