Hello, and welcome to the new new look iConbar. Since we're all Mac users now (even Rich!), we thought it was about time that we ditched RISC OS properly and changed the focus of the site to cover all things Apple. No more will I be posting marathon threads in the Playpen about games that no-one is interested in and that I'll never complete, for I've found a new hobby of making podcasts, directing fan films on YouTube, and chatting on my myspace. And no, you're not invited. It's strictly Mac users only.
Go Apple. It's just so much better.

Due to this change I've now ordered my new Mac and currently using my RiscOS based machines as furniture. I've had to sell a kidney to afford it but as long as I can still join in the discussions here it'll be worth it. Although feeling a little pain from the back street surgeons knife.

Ditch RiscOS, are you mad????
I think I'll stick to RiscOS. Just think of all those nasty Mac Hackers out there. You'll be as safe as Windows users.

I think I'll stick to RiscOS. *cough*
Think of the date. Although I admit that iCon, although accidental, is quite apt and quite funny, because a lot of what Apple produce is overhyped, pretentious and a bit of an (i)Con rather than, as it believes, an icon.
Nice redesign though ;-) |

a lot of what Apple produce is overhyped, pretentious and a bit of an (i)Con rather than, as it believes, an icon. They're marketed as attractive, easy to use, functional devices. I know lots of people who like their Macs and iPods for precisely those reasons. Where's the con in that? I don't care for the hip lifestyle photography, but that's not aimed at people like me. |

I don't care for the hip lifestyle photography, but that's not aimed at people like me. It's the hip lifestyle bit that's a con. To be perfectly fair, I think my PC is attractive*, easy to use, and functional - unlike a lot of users, who seem to be utter morons (including the ones who regularly phone me for help), and there are people who would manage to crash a Windows PC or a Mac equally efficiently.
*okay I'll admit that the dreaded beige box isn't nice, and a lot of stuff from Dell and the likes is bland and unimaginative, but since I'm a builder, stuff like the Antec P180, which I have, just oozes attractiveness for me - more so than any white/transparent Mac thing I've seen. Then again, some say it looks like a glorified mini-fridge. But my point still stands. I also hate the plain, largely featureless white of the whole iMac/iPod phenomena, but that's the same as I hate living in a featureless white room, which university apartments here so often are. White room, no decor allowed, basic pale pine furniture... aargh! |

I always thought that the white iPod (cue gasping Apple fanboys) looked like a central heating thermostat control.
Anyway, it was a great April Fools' joke which I didn't want to immediately and blatantly "call" only a few minutes after midnight. Can we choose the iConbar look as a personal portal theme? |

Images, then.
You can access the themes by going to the "Edit profile" link at the top left, and selecting the "Edit options" tab. The thinking being, instead of having a "change themes" tab, there'll probably be more options at some point in the future ________ Cheers, Rich.

You've got to admit, when Acorn developed and named its creation the Icon Bar, and when you registered and built up this site, you couldn't possibly have known about the iThinkIt'sCoolToNameThingsLikeThis trend. (Could you?) So therefore, it's accidental that Icon = iCon but yet still so very apt |

We didn't realise that both iconbar and acornarcade have "O"s in them that could be replaced with shields on Saint's days either, until we put some thought into it. It's not accidental that we didn't go with "Wiiconbar" or "Wiicorn Wiicade" instead. ________ Cheers, Rich.

Why did you use Paul Vigay as the PC? Clearly you haven't read TIB before. Paul Vigay is our hero. And he has a secret PC/windows fetish. Everyone knows that. |

FANTASTIC picture - perfect antidote to those awful Mac adverts
You got that right I see that MacFormat got PCAnwsers to speak about those Apple ads, oh and when I was on my way to PCWorld this morning my mum saw the accedent ad on a bus stop and said she would like to gat a PC because she wants to brake her leg and get a few weeks off work. |
