Yes, a
new version of RISC OS on ROM! But no, it's nothing to do with Select, and is of little direct interest to most users. Changes from RISC OS 4.02 are:
Support for interlaced screen modes in PAL and NTSC
Inclusion of the patches released to correct minor bugsIt costs £120; or if you already have RISC OS 4.02, you can exchange your ROMS for £60; both prices including VAT and P&P. It's aimed at users of Millipede Professional Graphics systems; the system used by 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' around the world, and countless UK game shows. People using these have been unable to upgrade to RISC OS 4.02 because of internal memory usage changes. RISC OS 4.05 presumably fixes this, and should be avaliable in March.
Interestingly, this is apparently a spin off from work on Embedded RISC OS - it's good to know that development on this is still continuing.

I do wonder why they didn't put some of the Select features into it though. I'd have been tempted to buy some then. Well done on the article Moss, 39mins before 'that other' website ;-) |

At a complete guess, perhaps part of the reason is that they want to keep this release as stable as possible; this is for broadcast equipment, and they can't have it crashing ;-) |

Whatever happened to Millipede (http://www.millipede.co.uk)? Were they too busy making piles of cash to be bothered with the Acorn platform any more? |

I heard that their Imago project was postponed because they were too busy concentrating on their core business - basically, Risc PC's all over the world controlling WWTBAM. Anyway, this piece of news shows they're still active. |

I think they also provide the graphics systems for The Weakest Link, too. |

What a surprising piece of news, but very welcome. Excellent work RISCOS Ltd - and Millipede of course! |

Hmm. I still won't be upgrading my A7000+ though, its still too expensive for little old me. I'll be using RISC OS 3.71 for a while yet ;-) |
